Welcome to URTeC 2018

Dear Colleague,

On behalf of the 2018 Unconventional Resources Technology Conference (URTeC), its sponsoring and supporting organizations and our Technical Program Committee, we invite you to register for the premier event focused on the latest science and technology applied to exploration, appraisal, analysis and development of unconventional resources. URTeC will be held at the George R. Brown Convention Center, 23-25 July in Houston, Texas.

Our industry is recovering from a historic downturn and the timing of this premier meeting on unconventional resource technology couldn’t be better. The “shale revolution” that had its origins with U.S. based initiative, creativity and innovation has gone “global.” The same tenacity that escalated the “shale revolution” to the “shale insurgency” will undoubtedly be at the core of the resiliency that will continue to provide the world with an affordable and stable energy supply. Now is the time for the industry to get down to business!

With the reality of this global repositioning as a backdrop, we invite you to join us and our global community comprising members of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG), the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG) and nine supporting societies:

  • American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE)
  • Association for Iron & Steel Technology (AIST)
  • American Rock Mechanics Association (ARMA)
  • American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE)
  • American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
  • Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration (SME)
  • Society of Petroleum Evaluation Engineers (SPEE)
  • Society of Petrophysicists and Well Log Analysts (SPWLA)
  • The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society (TMS)

More than ever before, our professional societies and their members must engage in cross-disciplinary dialogue and collaboration to meet the challenges that characterize the future of our industry. To that end, URTeC 2018 has proactively worked to include as much content and participation as possible. The program includes more than 300 presentations — both Session Room Presentations and Exhibition Hall Presentations — a Plenary Session, Core Exhibits, Networking Receptions, Short Courses, Topical Breakfasts and Luncheons and an Exhibition of vendors ready to help you reduce costs and inject innovation into your business. As a bonus for 2018 we have incorporated the popular Operators’ Forum as well as several panels and special sessions into the body of the URTeC program. URTeC is the one must-attend event in 2018 for unconventional resources — we look forward to seeing you there!

Sincerely,
Technical Program Co-Chairs
