Abstract Submission Guidelines

This year's URTeC abstract submissions should be prepared following the specific format outlined below (character limits include spaces and punctuation):

  • Objectives/Scope (600 character limit)
  • Methods/Procedures/Process (800 character limit
  • Results/Observations/Conclusions (800 character limit)
  • Applications/Significance/Novelty (800 character limit)
  • For Theme 01: Operators' Forum (team presentation) submissions only:
    • Interdisciplinarity (600 character limit)
    • Operators' Forum presentations should feature 2-3 presenters representing different disciplines. Please comment on how your proposed paper will engage multiple disciplines.

Additional Guidelines:

  • The title, authors, and authors’ affiliations are not included in the character limit.
  • Titles are required — they should be brief and state the topic.
  • Abstract titles should not include company names.
  • Abstract titles should be in title case and NOT upper case.
  • In keeping with the spirit of the conference, presenters must refrain from making subtle or blatant sales pitches including but not limited to: repeated use of product names, trade names or pictures, or repeated use of company logo.
  • Company permission, if needed, should be obtained prior to abstract submission. Problems concerning company permission should be noted when the abstract is submitted.
  • Evaluation and ranking of abstracts are based on relevance and timeliness of subject matter; usefulness of contribution to the advancement of knowledge, techniques or practice; and overall clarity, organization and presentation of ideas.
  • Sessions will be determined from the abstracts submitted to each theme.
  • Authors will be notified of acceptance or rejection in early February 2018.

Manuscript requirement:

  • Authors of accepted abstracts are required to submit a full paper, which will then be reproduced as part of a digital library and made available online to conference attendees. Manuscripts will also be published in the online journals for SPE, AAPG, and SEG.
  • An expanded abstract may be submitted in lieu of a full paper. The expanded abstract should be a minimum of four pages and is expected to contain references, comparisons to related works and other details generally expected in a research paper but not in an abstract, though it may omit discussions of future work, very specific details of tests or processes, or other details not relevant to the key ideas presented.
  • URTeC follows the “no paper, no podium” policy. If authors of accepted abstracts fail to provide a full manuscript or expanded abstract by the deadline of 30 April 2018, the organizers will remove the presentation from the program.

Important: URTeC has no funding for speakers. Do not submit an abstract unless at least one author is certain to attend the conference. All session chairs and speakers must register to attend the conference. No exceptions.

Abstracts should be submitted online at https://urtec2018.abstractcentral.com/. If you cannot submit your abstract online, please contact Rachel Piotraschke, our technical programs coordinator.
